Q: Are you seriously walking across the country?
A: Yes! See the route page
Q: I heard you might cut off all your hair to raise money to cover expenses
so you can actually afford to do the walk, is this true? Wait, let me see if I
have this right. You're willing to cut your hair off for money to cover costs
while you're spending 4 months away from your home and family walking
across the country to raise money for a charity and your hair is going to charity too?
A: YES, IT'S TRUE! I will absolutely cut off my hair [leaving 1 inch] to raise enough
money to be able to cover costs. Most importantly, the charity will gain publicity,
and someone without hair can have mine.
Q: Have you considered riding a bicycle or roller blading?
A: Roller blades, that’s a hilarious, NO! Although, we have recently agreed to riding our
bikes in order to cover more miles each day and give our toes a break.
Q: How far is it from Maryland to California?
A: About 3000 miles
Q: Why on earth would you do that?
A: To help a group of innocent children who have nothing; except the clothes on their
backs and hope in their hearts that someone will care enough to do something
Q: Is anyone else walking with you?
A: Lots of people will start walking on the first day. Many will have to go home that
night. Others will join the walk at some point throughout the journey
Q: How many states are you walking through?
A: 9-MD, DC, VA, TN, AR, TX, NM, AZ, CA
Q: How do you know which roads to take?
A: Google maps – walking directions-verifying directions on Google Earth
Q: Can I join the walk anywhere along the route?
A: Absolutely! The more the merrier! Be sure to get registered
Q: Does it cost to walk?
A: Yes, $5.00 for each walker-registration fees go toward funding the walk
Q: Who will take care of your family, pets, and home?
A: My husband is pretty self sufficient and my daughters will do their part to keep things
running, until they join me in June, that is
Q: Will you be taking pictures along the way?
A: Absolutely, I love photography so naturally, I’ll be shooting every day
Q: Aren’t you concerned or afraid for your safety?
A: Absolutely not, I may look sweet but I’m trained in weaponless defense
Q: What kind of shoes will you be wearing?
A: I only wear Under Armour athletic shoes!
Q: Where will you stay at night?
A: churches & hotels
Q: Will you be camping out?
A: NO-I am anti bug, anti snake, spider, rodent, etc.
Q: What will you do if you get half way there and decide you just can’t do the rest?
A: Quitting or turning back is not an option. I/we will travel the entire distance!
Q: Who else knows about the walk?
A: Lots of people, however, our goal is to make sure at least 1 million people learn
about the walk. We’ll do whatever it takes to get the word out! If you want to
help us spread the word use the “tell a friend” button on this website or if you
have a Facebook, myspace, or Café Mom page you can direct people to these
forums and ask them to tell people. Word of mouth is extremely powerful
Q: How much money are you trying to raise?
A: Enough to build two dorms, buy a solar panel energy system and to drill water
wells for the community - approximately 200,000
Q: Can’t you get Bono, Donald Trump, or Oprah, or maybe some other rich
celebrity to donate money?
A: That would be lovely, do you know them? Does anyone know them?
Q: Do you think Oprah or Ellen or Dr. Phil will have you on their tv shows?
A: Maybe, if information reaches them before the new fall season starts
Q: Why are you helping “those people” when people in America need help?
A: Wow, you have no idea how many times I’ve been asked this question. I’m still taken
aback. We’re walking for the children who live in the slums of Nairobi. The children
are human beings who, [through no fault of their own] live in horrible conditions, and
have little hope that things will change unless we do something. GOD gave all of us
feet for a reason. Many simply use their feet to get around. Some have found their
feet can do great things like kick a field goal or dance on ice. I have determined
my feet were given to me to do something special for someone else. To walk &
pedal across this beautiful country and tell every person I meet about the kids
who need us. Besides, Americans have unlimited resources to secure the things
they need to survive. [be sure to see the human services page under fast facts]
Q: How do I donate to Feet For Hope?
A: Click here
Q: Is my donation to Feet For Hope tax deductible?
A: Not yet. We have applied to become a tax exempt organization – as of this
moment we are simply a small group of people who intend to raise funds for the
children in Nairobi
Q: What will you do when you reach LAX? [Los Angeles International Airport]
A: My first thought is collapse, but seriously I think I’ll find a place to take a shower,
have a meal, then ride to the beach
Q: Can I buy a t-shirt or other stuff even if I can’t join the walk?
A: Sure, purchase whatever you want, all dollars generated from FFH shop sales go
directly to fund the journey
Q: Can I donate “things” instead of money?
A: Thank you for offering. See Ways To Help page. We need gasoline for the support
vehicle, a hotel room one night a week would be lovely, publicity-call your local TV
and radio news stations, friends to help spread the word on the social network
forums, and financial contributions to continue the journey are all deeply appreciated
Q: I’m registered to walk with the group starting in New Mexico; what happens if I get
hurt along the way, will there be a doctor on hand to treat any medical problems?
A: Good question! All walkers and bike riders travel at their own expense and risk, all
participants are required to sign a waiver prior to traveling with us
Feet For Hope assumes zero responsibility for anyone choosing to participate in
our event. Will we have a doctor on hand? Hmm…that would be lovely, but no
Q: I’ve cycled and run in other national awareness events and everything for participants
was provided, meaning food, water, shelter, showers, etc., is this event the same?
A: No, every participant is responsible for their own transportation, food, and shelter
Q: I own a music production business in Nashville, TN, I would like to offer you and your
group a home cooked meal, several cases of water, laundry services [my wife will
wash, dry and return to you the same day] and a good nights sleep at our home,
would you and your group like to spend time with us when you get to Music City?
A: Wow, how generous and thoughtful, thank you. On behalf of the group I humbly
accept your offers and look forward to connecting with you once we arrive.
Q: A group of friends and I have already started raising money for your journey across
America we would like to present you with a check or just hand to you the cash we're
collecting, how do we catch up with you on the road? We live in Beverly Hills, CA
can you meet us?
A: Thank you for your efforts, we are extremely grateful. You gave me your cell phone
number I'm emailing you mine-I'll email you as we get closer and call you once
we're a day or two from LA to set a meeting place and time
Q: My [not so small] 44 members Bible study group heard about your journey
across America on our local evening news. We've talked to our Senior Pastor and
the Elders and have decided to collect a "love offering" for your mission. We'd like
to present it to you when you get to Dallas [Rockwall]. Would you be interested in
talking with our Pastor about the journey during the Sunday services? We have 3
satellite church locations so there will be several thousand who will learn about
your mission.
A: Oh my gosh YES! Thank you so much, Jacob. I am incredibly grateful for your
support and your prayers. I will contact you as we enter Texas with our ETA.
GOD bless you brother!
